How Content Creators Maximise a Very Short Career

4 key aspects that content creators need to succeed within a short time.

The average career of a content creator only spans 5-7 years.

Thats less than a professional football player.

Meanwhile, the average Premier League football player earns $4.1 million per year.

It also takes an average of almost 2 years for a content creator to support themselves (even longer for some).

So is it worth it to become a content creator? How can creators make the most of such a short career?

First of all…

Let’s assume that no one needs $4mil a year to live a comfortable life.

In most countries earning over $100k a year already puts you in the top 1% of earners.

Therefore I’ll dive deeper on the creators that earn over $100k…

AND Let’s get one thing clear: Creators are entrepreneurs managing a business.

So with that, how do the successful creators make the most of their short careers?

1. Their Personal Life

6-figure creators excel at both managing their businesses while still investing in their personal lives.

Living off brand deals is easier for those with millions of followers, but for the majority of creators, they do not have this option.

Diversifying their income is important to future-proofing their livelihood and improving their financial security.

2. Business Mindset and Fast Execution.

Like any successful entrepreneur, execution is everything.

Many people have good ideas but not everyone executes them well.

It takes a lot of work to build a successful business, but it pays off for six-figure creators.

40% of top earners reached six figures in less than two years.

3. Doubling Down on a Niche

‘Niche’ is one of the most used words when talking about the creator economy. With reason!

It’s one of the fundamental ingredients that every creator (and business) needs.

4. They Invest in Their Education

This doesn’t necessarily mean that they studied ‘how to be a content creator’ rather they are more likely to know more about a specific topic.

Such as marketing or music theory.

For me, it’s also a signal that they are ambitious and disciplined (it doesn’t mean you have to go to university!)

What happens when a content creator retires?

In my next article I will deep dive on one of Spain’s top YouTube creators… and he retired from content creation before he turned 30.
